  • Families can now enjoy stargazing on state of the art telescopes at The Westin Aruba Resort. This is one of the new amenities offered in Westin’s Discovery Program every Tuesday evening around the pool deck. AIRPORT & AIRLINES

  • The General Aviation terminal is now officially open. The 1500 square meter facility will provide dedicated check in service, a US customs and immigration desk (US pre-clearance) and terminal amenities for the increasing private air traffic to Aruba. The terminal is a standalone facility operated by Universal Aviation Aruba N.V., a member of the UV Global Network and a subsidiary of Universal Weather and Aviation, Inc., and is headed by Mr. Claudio Stamper.  It is estimated that since the opening of Universal, Aruba has already handled 213 private flights.   • Effective January 12, 2009, all Visa Waiver Program (VWP) travelers are required to obtain an electronic travel authorization prior to boarding a carrier to travel by air or sea to the <country-region w:st="on"><place w:st="on">U.S.</place></country-region> under the VWP. The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) is accessible via internet for citizens and eligible nationals of VWP countries to apply for advance authorization to travel to the <country-region w:st="on"><place w:st="on">United States</place></country-region> under the VWP.   • Aruba Airport Authority N.V. awarded Surninam Airways with the Wow! Award 2008 as the Paramaribo - Aruba - Miami flight became the first hub product of the airport. Surinam Airways plans to add a third flight to Miami via Aruba. For more information please Call (297) 524-2420

  • Rembrandt Café opened its doors in the South Beach Centre at Palm Beach 55, located right across Amazonia Churrascaria. It is open from Monday to Thursday from 11am till 2am, Fridays and Saturdays from 11am till 4am, Sundays from 4pm till 2am. Kitchen opens from 11am till 10pm offering lunch and dinner.   • A Legend has come to Aruba; Hard Rock Café is here! Offering an impressive air conditioned eatery, housing a remarkable collection of rock memorabilia and customized for Aruba, a state of the art outdoor canopied terrace and each section had its own bar. It includes a rock shop offering Aruba exclusive t shirts featuring the island flag and the famous Divi trees.   • Chez Mathilde Restaurant recently introduced its Business lunch menu to the public. For $16.50, you will receive a combination of a soup and a sandwich, and for $25, you will receive a combination of a soup, a main course and a dessert. Mathilde also offers a “Timeless Classic Menu” which is a variety of 3 course dinner specials, all including a special wine arrangement of white or red wine for $60 per person.   • Morgan’s Island water park, the largest such park in the Caribbean and Latin America is now open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. It is home to the “Dragon’s Revenge” tower of which six slides extend, the 2nd tallest single person waterslide in the world with a 21 meter (70 foot) drop, and offering many slides which require single or two-man tubes. The double wave pools offer an alternative where you can lounge and relax in the tubes. The facility also offers an area just for kids with mini slides and water activities, changing rooms, shower facilities, lockers, game rooms and an infirmary. It offers three eateries: The Black Pearl for quick, self service, the Jack Sparrow Bar and a terrace. It also features the “El Corsario” gift shop selling a vast selection of pirate gear, ship models, water toys etc. Entrance is $57 for adults and $47 for kids. ARUBANS IN THE NEWS 

  • Sarah-Quita Offringa was named “Athlete of the year 2008” during the annual ceremony “Simplemente Deporte” honoring all Aruba’s top athletes for the year based on their achievement in sports, both locally and internationally. She made history as the youngest woman to ever win the title of World Champion of Professional Windsurfing Association in women’s free style, this after a series of record breaking accomplishments over the past three years, including being the youngest windsurfer ever to win a gold medal on the professional circuit.

  • Shanayah Howell (9 yrs of age) won the “Youth Female Athlete 2008” award in Aruba. Shanayah practices the sport of Bicycle Motocross (BMX) and her achievements include the title of UCI BMX World Champion twice which were featured in the September issue of “BMX Today” magazine.

  • IDEFRE has released their new Run & Walk activities calendar for 2009.  Featuring events in different areas of the island, it offers all participants, especially Aruba visitors, the opportunity to actively experience the island.
